In no particular order, six highlights from the comprehensive foodwatching and drinkswatching new opening reports are:
Connie's Pizza, Peckham, London
Connie's Pizza is opened by the founder of 081 Pizzeria, Andrea Asciuti.
The restaurant serves Bri-talian style pizzas, that are seasonally inspired with local ingredients. Made with 36-48 hour fermented dough, using American flour, the pizzas are said to be light and crispy. There will be eight different pizzas on offer and will be made with British mozzarella and stracciatella. There will also be side dishes of meatballs, mac 'n' cheese deep-fried and mozzarella sticks. Dessert is one dish only; they're Fiocco di Neve mini-Brioche filled with ricotta and whipped cream.
Gladstones, Crown, Perth
Gladstones is a fifty-seat wine bar at the Crown Perth, named after Dr John Gladstones, a pioneer of the state's viticulture industry.
The bar serves wines from Western Australia, including rare vintages and premium wines, served by the glass.
Mio Oh Mio, Seattle
Mio Oh Mio has been opened by James Beard Award winning Chef Renee Erickson of Sea Creatures restaurant group.
The menu is said to be a blend of UK and Italian cuisines, with dishes such as Pasta, Guinness Bread, Crackly Black Cod with Saffron Butter, Leeks and Potato Pavé. There is a celebration of Pacific Northwest foods such as steak, shellfish, and vegetables.
Long Count, East Village, NYC
Long Count has opened in East Village, New York City, as a wine and focaccia bar.
The list is curated by partner and wine director Drew Brady. He has sourced overlooked back vintages from importer cellars and distributors' warehouses.
All the wines are aged for at least ten years and are mainly natural. Including oxidative whites, aged rosés, skin contact wines and red wines.
The food is vegan and is created by Chefs Haley Duren and Galen Kennemer, who have built the menu around focaccia. A focus of the menu is fermented sauces, vinegars and infused oils. The fries are lacto-fermented, and there are arancini with truffles and radicchio salad.
Medusa, South Beach Avenue, Singapore
Medusa is said to be the inaugural Osteria Romana in Singapore.
They are serving authentic Roman cooking; the business is headed up by natives of Rome, Chef Federico Scordo and General Manager Federico Burci. The décor is based on the glamorous vintage luxury of 1960's Rome, all in bright crimson and white. Dishes include Alfredo Fettuccine or Spaghetti Carbonara and savoury modern versions of Maritozzo, along with Pizza and Pinsa.
8055 Vinyl Bar, Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong
8055 Vinyl Bar is by Brian and Ah Hei, found in the nightlife district, Lan Kwai Fong.
Drinks are inspired by premium Japanese whiskies and umeshu plum wine, including an umeshu soda. Guests can have their drinks omakase style, where the bartender creates a drink for them. Guests can also write graffiti on the walls with specially supplied pens.
The music is based on Japanese hip-hop, jazz, funk and city pop.
