Key Insights From Our Thai iced tea Drinkswatching Report

From cafes to social media, the soft drink sphere is abuzz with a new global phenomenon… Thai Iced Tea.

Already a regional favourite in Southeast Asia, in recent months its popularity has surged on the global scene. Traditionally, Thai iced teas are known for their bold, sweet, slightly spiced profile – thanks to the addition of condensed or evaporated milk, as well as spices like vanilla, star anise and cardamom. Meanwhile a strong brewed, black tea base (e.g. Assam or Ceylon), when combined with the other ingredients, gives the drink its distinct orangey hue. And make no mistake, the OG version is winning over tea-aficionados in their droves.

But now, a new wave Thai iced teas are making their mark too. We're seeing lots flavour and colour twists – from green tea and chocolate flavoured takes, to layered matcha/Thai tea concoctions. And there are also unexpected toppings aplenty, from cold foams to ice cream – as well as multi-sensory delight in the guise of boba and jelly inclusions. Or if you really want to push flavour and texture boundaries… why not try a Thai iced tea slushie! Perfect for the summer ahead…
